shipping series: why do i ship dirkjake?

To start off with the ship review series I’m going to review a ship not only kin with (jake English) but one ship that lays deep and near to me since day one for me despite all the turns and twist this ship has: dirkjake.
I know,
I know,
All my homestuck are screaming here I know. It is a ship that pretty much one thirds of the room is fangirling, another thinking the ship is  an abusive one, or a third is questioning why I am a huge fan of a ship that in canon only lasted for five whole minutes.  Before we go onto my feelings and such lets look  back on the actual series. Yes with ships I take great consideration of the series in which the characters are in before shipping them any farther. This is mainly how my ship erifef sunk ( that can be described in another post if anyone is interested in the comments below.)

First by the characters themselves in very short straight to the point that is relevant to the ship:

Dirk:
Been alone for his whole life with cal, robots he made himself and a computer to talk to friend in a post apocalyptic world.
Is a person trying to keep his emotions in check(yes shattering the anime fangirl stereotype of him as we speak)  so hes hard to read
not the best with human upon human interaction outside of the web but tries everything he can to keep his friends in check. (means possibly even hugging may even be a challenge and turn completely frozen if trying.)

Jake:
Loved on an island for most of his life
Not the most confident person on the planet but tends to look confident so others don’t worry and hes liked.
Also not best with interaction since being in an island just full of monsters.
Most quirky/kind/sponanious person youll meet
Brings positivity to the room but can get leap before think methods
Can misread things due to the lack of human communication on his island/. So trying to peck him on the cheek as a hint  may not be wise.


Now them combined in the comics/ reasons why it broke in canon:

1) both teenagers: bound to do some things that will highly regret. Especially in  an enviroment where every day can be your last.
2) Since both have never interacted with people miscommunication is totally off the board. It was not just only strider over texting. Jake clearly should’ve said his bounderies from day one and whenever hes feeling uneasy or drowned.
3) Not believing in yourself and uneasy from the get go of the relationship never works pretty. Its like building a house without the framework or base.  Dirk didn’t know this because jake never communicated. Dirk needs someone in the relationship he craves with him something only a stable one can have. Jake is underdeveloped in that compartment but currently is building a base in the updates. Just very slowly. In short: two wrongs don’t make a right.
4) Dirk’s way of concern method was not the best. Not interacting with people along with the whole sick of self identity/emotions problem wasn’t the smartest move for this strider on this one. In the update he relizes this but feel hes beating himself a bit too much as well as jake.

Speaking of them beating each other too much. Lets go with why this even matters on me shipping them.

Now with relationships and me whenever I go through a break up I try everything in my power to cut all communications with them as possible. Fear I would either crawl back in desperation basically. (they are an exception of the first love here since it was equal)  most of the time I would break with them so they don’t break me if there’s nothing left to be done.  Now everyone who reads the comic knows how it got broken (if you don’t know ask in the comments below please so no spoilers ^^)  and usually think when a person breaks up with another there’s no real quilt after awhile right? Not quite with these two. I mean heck we can tell the two are being a bit somber without each other a bit. I mean dirks with dave sure but when Jake is mentioned he’s a bit depressed about it. Kind of like almost like regret of the split in the first place.

Which goes to the main reason I ship them: chemistry.
Before the whole romance situation dirk and him were actually BROS! like even for opposites they had something that was missing from the other. Like yin and yang in the broverse. Along with things the two like to do together. Like the island or getting skeletons at xenon. I really enjoy the complexity of the relationship as a whole. Making it oh so more realistic then the average Disney prince and princess. Am I one of the fans who think for certain they will end  up back together?

Lets take a step back from that a bit. As much as I really do there has to be some major changes for the two. Dirk needs to explain his feelings more and communicate. Like what he’s slowly doing with dave a bit. Jake needs a strong solid base on believing himself to give that hopes to others clearly and communicate fully on expression. He’s done a little of this already with fighting caliborn with his hope powers that only can be unlocked by believing he can. Until there fully developed the best relationship they can possibly have now  which I don’t mind at all between my kin self and dirk is where they began: bros. anything more at this point so far will miscommunicate and explode again. No one wants a second explosion now >.>

Aside from all the complexity of them the artwork from the fandom like ones from
Ikimaru and  a fanfics similar to  one  called human touch makes them lovable with there worst and best sides showing. Though this ship maybe miscommunicated with the fandom with dirk being too harsh (he was but not in a way to make him completely evil and abusive. Maybe recheck his bio a bit before saying that?) and jake being a complete angel(which he isn’t by all means. Hes human not a celestial being.  Relooking at my kin maybe wise in this state. )if researched and viewed in the right angle it is nothing like that and more of a huge miscommunications between prince and a page here. Parts that even there worst sides can actually make the ship more believable and love it more then the happily ever after ships. Sure that means not a lot of kissing scenes and such for the mind but that’s what fanart is for right? Shrugs
